I do love it when I get comments like this on my you tube videos…..check this out….

“I just finished Samantha’s 14 day program to get off sugar. I’m free now for 30 days actually and I have to say she knows what she is talking about. You have to tweak it too, to your own body. I am fine eating fruit, yogurt, and healthy stuff like fruit. But certain things I eat will make me “go off the deep end,” like she says, and make me crave cookies or something. They just happen to be: granola bars, cocoa puffs and dried craisins for some reason. Her program is worth every penny of the $37.” Click here if you want read about it….

That is so exciting when someone can experience the kind of freedom I talk about. I had 3 other people email me testimonials in the last few days, one told me she lost 25 lbs. and feels amazing and can’t believe how FREE she is from the cravings. Its surprising the first time you experience it because many that are addicted to sugar don’t feel like they will ever not crave it.

However, they soon find out that the cravings do go away. Its amazing! Hey take the quiz to see if you even are addicted to sugar….

Well one thing about having a blog and being in the public eye with your thoughts and opinions is that you will find people that either love what you teach or….not so much! And believe me they both voice their opinion.

I had this woman write me an email complaining that it was wrong that I tell people that you can have sugar with balance AFTER you have overcome the addiction and learned how your body works and how to have balance. This is ONLY if you have learned skills in how to do this, not if you are still in the midst of struggling with sugar.

My question is this, do you think it is actually realistic to tell yourself that once you get off this sugar addiction, that you will actually never have it again for the rest of your life?

Well, honestly I think that can set you up for more failure down the road because there is sugar in a lot of different foods and it is every where. Sure if you used to struggle with alcohol you can put yourself in situations where there is not any alcohol but its practically impossible to do that with sugar. Yes, you do have to learn how to not let your temptations rule your decisions and just pounce on sugar and eat it when you see it, that is a fact.

But being that it took me many years to come off sugar when I lived by the mindset that I could NEVER have it again, I found that mentality set me up for failure. Why?

Because if I did have it again, which is reality, then I binged on it because my mind was telling me, “I can never eat this again, I might as well gorge on it.” That for me personally, created more of a problem and with the amount of people I hear from that have an issue with sugar, it does you too.

So I have found in my life, I have to find balance. And if you don’t agree with that, that that is okay, we are all entitled to our own opinion. I just think that if you are too legalistic about it, then it can set you up for failure.

Sure, addictions to drugs and alcohol, that is something that once you get a handle on that, you don’t just dabble in that, you walk away and don’t ever touch it again, that is your best road to success however with sugar, doesn’t it seem like to have that mentality it can set you up for failure down the road?

I would love to hear your thoughts on this and tell me what you think too so leave a comment to this blog post.

I have learned that if I do have sugar, which is rare because I choose not to put that stuff in my body and I actually DON’T want it anymore, I need to know what I can do to protect myself from not struggling with the addiction again….. particularly pay attention to the fact that I have had a previous issue with it so to not let me guard down and think “I got this” and to not let let myself have it again day after day.

That is when people that struggle with sugar get into trouble. You can get to a point where you are more balanced in your nutrition and your mental and emotional relationship with sugar, that it doesn’t control you anymore. So if you do have it, it is just that, you had sugar….no big deal, move on.

When you are in the midst of your struggle, its not like that. You have it and….watch out! You are looking for everything you can find! Those are two totally different experiences.

So when you have been away from it for awhile, its lost its “control” over you and you are healthier….if you CHOOSE to have it, pay attention and make sure you don’t slip back into having it the next day and the next day for that is when you can start to have some serious issues and start eating it every day again for 3 months! Does that make sense?

And if you do have it and it sends you into a tail spin and an all-out sugar fest, then that should show you that you aren’t ready for that yet….if ever….

So if you want help, you can certainly check out my 14 day Sugar Addiction Solution. Otherwise, keep checking out my blog. Take care and leave me a comment about what YOU think….

I used to use this “holiday” as an excuse to gorge on chocolate. And the day after with all of those sales. Those days are over, thank GOD! Today, I had no sugar or chocolate. Why? Not because I can’t but because I don’t want to. I am done with that road, I am tired of the end it ALWAYS brings!

So I encourage you, learn to love yourself without sugar. Gorging on that stuff is not loving yourself. If it was, then why does it hurt you? Physically and emotionally. Its an illusion. We think we are ”treating” ourselves but for someone who struggles with a sugar addiction, its not treat…its downright torture of what follows.

Keep in mind, if you don’t struggle with sugar, then eating it is no big deal to you. But to those of us who do struggle with it, it is like a drug and you just better be careful if you open that door with that “one innocent cookie”. Next thing you know, you are hooked again, gorging until you feel sick. Sound familiar?

Hey check out a few things I have on this site like an internet seminar you can see if you really are even addicted to sugar.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!!

I have been doing a lot of reading lately and experimenting with food and I have to say, I honestly did NOT realize that the amount of regular carbs (not sugar) I was eating was contributing to my actual sugar cravings.

When you eat food that constantly spikes your blood sugar levels (sugar and carbs) it can put your body of out whack. You have un-natural cravings that seem to override your “will power”. You know what I am talking about?

You know, you set your mind to not eat something but when the cravings seem to come over you, they can almost seem to take over! And its as if you are not in control anymore and you feel like you have to eat that food.

Well my friend, the good news is, its actually a chemically driven reaction happening in your body that is making it feel like you “have to have” that food. It doesn’t have as much to do with that will power that so many talk about.

It really has to do with balancing your blood sugar levels so your insulin is more stabilized and you don’t have those ridiculous cravings. Some may be deficient in seratonin in their brain that can cause cravings but I find its mostly this blood sugar issue.

So how you get things back in line is you reduce the amount of excess carbs you eat and increase your fat intake….yes, increase your fat intake IF you are reducing your carbs. Eating too low of fat is not good for our bodies and can cause more problems long term.

If you wonder if you really even are truly addicted to sugar, take this quiz and see…..

Here is an email a client sent me and check out what she said (this is used with permission):

“There is such FREEDOM not being ruled by food. I can see this now – as I am on the other side. I will hold on to this feeling because it is WORTH embracing! I am controlled by God’s Spirit, not by the food on my plate or the old cravings in my body.

I feel stronger and healthier every day!!!

The added bonus of getting healthier is having a SHARPER mind!!! I am more focused at work, no longer dependent on coffee to “get me through this day,” I eat when I’m hungry and stop when I am satisfied. I am reaching for life-giving foods. I do not feel like I am punishing myself. I am simply listening to what my body needs and NOT what it used to want! THAT was slavery. I am walking in freedom and it feels GREAT!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, just really basking in and enjoying this FREEDOM from food.

Amen!! ”

Wow, now that is what I am talking about! Living in FREEDOM from the control of food, just like that picture up there. We want to break those chains that are holding you down to that food or sugar addiction. It is SO awesome to be free of that! If you want help, of course you can check out my 14 day solution as well. Talk to you soon!

So, are you ready? Ready to finally see what its like to NOT struggle with this sugar addiction anymore? A New Year can be a great time to re-evaluate your life and look at some changes you would like to make.

Let’s look at the last year….have you enjoyed struggling with sugar? You know, the whole package of it, not just the flavor. The mood swings, cravings, feeling SO tired, hot flashes, depression and so on.

What are your negative side effects? Many people are different in how a sugar addiction affects their body. If you wonder if you even are a sugar addict, I encourage you to take this quiz to find out for real, or to see what level you might struggle.

I really encourage you to think about your life and this issue with sugar. Is there more positive then negative that comes from it?

Sure you may enjoy the flavor and that initial rush or calming from the serotonin but after that wears off, how is it? No fun, I know! I was a sugar addict for 30 years so trust me, I know.

But I had to come to a point in my life too that I said, “Enough is enough! I am SICK of this and I am not going to put up with it anymore!”

Are you there yet? Is it time in 2013 for you to experience how great your life can be without this issue with sugar?

Many people are thinking about all of the health issues that are caused from too much sugar and did you know that they are now calling Alzheimer’s, Type 3 Diabetes? They are calling it this because they are finding it also has to do with insulin resistance which can get caused when you constantly eat foods that spike your blood sugar levels, like sugar and excess carbohydrates.

Holidays and the Sugar Addict

Most can admit, struggling with a sugar addiction is hard enough on its own, then you add all of these holidays with more sugar….everywhere! That is one reason why so many people get sick this month because sugar supresses the immune system and many eat way more then they normally do.

I don’t know about you but I use to use the holidays as a reason to PIG OUT on sugar and say, “Well, it’s a holiday.” or “Oh it’s on sale.” or “Everyone else is eating it.”

The point is, no matter what the excuse is you give yourself to gorge, you can still be left with the frustration of the after math. You will know from my other articles on this blog, that if you can have it with balance and it not control your life, then go right ahead. But my experience shows that is not the mindset of most people that wound up on this site, seeking help for a sugar addiction.

Honestly, for some people, it really is so much more then just a bad habit. It has become something that really controls them and even if they just stop those bad habits, if they don’t deal with the reasons why they keep picking up that sugar, then they are going to go right back to it.

I know from experience! Off and on, off and on, it was a never ending battle for many years of my life.

Until I really understood more what was going on in my body with sugar:

1) Why did I have sugar cravings?

2) Was I eating sugar for stress relief or to comfort me?

3) What do I do if I have sugar cravings?

4) How can I have sugar one time and it not turn into an all out ’free for all’?

There can actually be physiological reasons why you crave sugar constantly and when you can address those issues, then you can have no more cravings. Yes, NO MORE cravings! I know its hard to believe for many I have had the privilege to read the answers to the quiz they took, over 4000 people have actually taken this quiz and with all of that research, I have heard your heart as well…

…For most of you, this has been a life long struggle, you have tried to stop eating it but you don’t feel like you can stop, you feel like it ‘controls’ you in a way - ‘talking to you’ all of the time and most of you certainly don’t know how to have it just one time to enjoy it so it doesn’t turn into eating it every day or multiple times a day. I KNOW what all of this is like because that is how I used to live my life. But thank God its no longer that way anymore and its wonderful to be free from the frustration of always having sugar cravings!

If you want to take the quiz I was talking about, click here, it will help self-diagnose whether you are a sugar addict or just someone who has a habit of eating sugar.

Remember, an addiction is something that almost seems beyond your control, you have tried to stop but there is this driving, pulling force within you that compels you to keep feeding the addiction (no matter what it is). And the definition of addiction is doing something compulsively even though there may be negative consequences for your life but you still do it anyway.

So, all that being said, how do you have balance this month with all of these extra things around. Here are a couple of tips:

1) Chill out! Don’t over think things too much. So what? There is temptation everywhere, you are not a dog. You are a human being with a spirit, mind and intellect that God has given you the ability to make wise decisions. You don’t have to live by following every impulse that comes your way.

2) Tell yourself, that you are NOT going to use this month as an excuse to just eat whatever you want. I am all for balance and having whatever you want to eat, sometimes. The problem becomes when you do that all of the time. One thing I had to overcome was the legalistic mindset that I could never have sugar again. That didn’t work for me and won’t for many of you. I can choose to have sugar whenever I want, I just don’t choose….anymore….to have it everyday. Its more on a special occassion kind of thing instead of a daily life of eating sugar all of the time. I will admit though, it did take me a while to figure out how to be able to do this. Now I can go a month or two without having it and LOVE being able to do that.

3) Keep your blood sugar more balanced by being cautious of how many carbs you eat overall. I honestly didn’t realize that the HUGE amount of carbs I was eating daily, was also increasing my cravings for sugar. I can tell you with total sincerity that when I haven’t had sugar for a few weeks, my blood sugar levels are balanced by not eating a lot of carbs that I do NOT HAVE ANY cravings for sugar. It’s wonderful too! That way its more of a choice to eat it instead of this ridiculous pull, driving me to eat it. Big difference. I even walked down the baking aisle on accident yesterday in the grocery store and was not tempted AT ALL! It was awesome! Now the ‘old me’ would have never been able to do that!

If some of these things have really resonated with you and you want to find out how to have the kind of victory I have been telling you about, then I am going to give you a one time only 15% off coupon code for my sugar addiction product. I want to motivate you to start studying this stuff NOW so you can have more victory. Enter code DECEMBER when you go to check out. You can even share this on your face book page to encourage others you care about, it can be great accountability too! Click this link to find out about my 14 Day Sugar Addiction Solution and to use the secret coupon code just for those of you that made it to the end of this article! One mindset I caution you on is thinking, “Well, I will just get back on track for the New Year and eat everything I want right now.”

Problem is, you live by this mindset, you are going to end up feeling like a stuffed turkey!

1) First of all, we know that is a lie. That is just the way for a sugar addict to give themselves an excuse to gorge. Now don’t get me wrong, I know you have intentions of stopping but you are dealing with a sugar addiction, an actual addiction. Not just a desire to stop eating sugar. Its more complicated then that.

2) The other problem with that mindset is if you pig out this month and try to stop in January, you are going to go through some serious sugar withdrawal symptoms and its not going to be easy. Its going to be much harder to come off sugar then if you don’t overdue this month.

You can take “The Quiz” to self-diagnose whether you even are a sugar addict or not, click here.

I encourage you to do something different this year and DON’T pig out on sugar. You will thank yourself later and not go through some serious sugar addiction detox symptoms when you stop eating it. The less sugar you have in your body, the less sugar withdrawals and sugar cravings you will have.

Overcoming a sugar addiction is mental, emotional, physical and spiritual and if you need help with that, check out this site.

Check out this email a woman sent me that has been on my 14 day Sugar Addiction Solution, she is on day 9. Check this out…..

Hello Samantha,

I just wanted to say that I feel great today on day 9! Like you, this is not my first time. I’ve been dealing with sugar addiction and it’s side effects my whole life. I’ve always made it the joke, how addicted I was. The fact that I could eat an entire Entenmanns cake in one sitting, with a fork – no plate, and not gain much weight because I exercise every day of the week.

People would marvel at how I could do that. They’d purposely buy stuff that they wanted “a piece of”, and then tell me I could have the rest. People would bring me chocolate and boxes of ring dings because they knew it would make me happy.

No one knew how sick it was making me. How bloated, gassy and constipated I was ALL THE TIME. It was embarrassing. How it was ruining my relationships because of the irritability and the self-esteem issues. I’ve successfully stopped before, but your program and your trials and tribulations make me realize that every time DOES get easier.

You made me realize that it was my sugar addiction that was taking from my concentration and my ability to just do the most basic responsibilities. I no longer whine about the time it’s going to take to mow the lawn, cover the pool, clean the house. You made me realize that I used to whine about these things because I felt deprived when they took from my time “relaxing” and eating sugar. That is a huge realization for me.

I’ve allowed my sugar addiction to become a “relationship”, while in reality it is part of my disease. I am in adult child Alanon and it has changed my life. With my mind and my heart wide open, I see now how, successfully learning to control my sugar intake, my life can be better than it ever was before. As will my real relationships.

Samantha, thank you for being willing to put yourself out there the way that you did and sharing your vulnerabilities with us. It makes us realize that it is truly an addiction. While not one as life threatening as Alcoholism, it is still something that can hold your “real” life hostage! I now see every time I’ve tried to come off sugar, and “failed”, in a different light.

Every time I tried, I came closer.

I realize too that this may not be the last time, and that’s ok, I’m prepared for that. Hopefully, being mentally prepared means that I’ll be able to recognize when I’m about to “fall off the wagon” and catch myself before it’s too late.

I walked right past a bag of chocolate chip cookies with m&m’s in the lunchroom yesterday and they didn’t even talk to me! It was a wonderful feeling. Food should not talk to a person. LOL. Again, thank you.

I started my 16yr old daughter on the 14 day solution on Saturday because she has been getting increasingly lethargic, losing focus and concentration, sleeping all the time, and incredibly irritable. Now one might think that’s normal for a 16 year old, but it isn’t. She knows it too. This morning when I made her eat breakfast before she went to school she wasn’t even crabby, or arguing that she didn’t want to eat. We’ve done this before so she knows that this will help her feel better. We just have to get through the hard part. I went to NYC this weekend, and did not “fall off the wagon”. I didn’t even want to.

Wasn’t even tempted to go into Magnolia’s Bakery, famous from Sex and the City, because I had a bag of Kellogg’s all bran crackers. When I ate them outside the bakery, somehow they tasted sweeter than usual. Funny.

I feel better every day. I indulge my cravings with peanut butter and sugar free jelly on double fiber English muffins. It’s delish and filling. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow or if this is something that will finally “stick” for me, but Samantha has me looking at it from a different angle and that seems to be helping tremendously. One day at a time.

Thank you
Viki

P.S. The picture I enclosed is one of me sitting in front of my favorite sugary snack. To everyone’s disbelief and amusement I would eat an entire cake in an afternoon, with a fork, no plate, until it was done. Many times I would hide it. Or if I bought one to bring somewhere I’d buy 2 so that i was sure to get “enough”.

Email 3 days later:

Today is day 3 for my daughter, but she hasn’t had any sugar or fast food for 5 days. She has been an absolute pleasure to be around the last 2 days. Even in the morning! (which is unheard of for my 16 yr old daughter). She knows it’s because of what she’s eating (or NOT eating).

It’s wonderful to see the recognition in her eyes, because as she grows older I know that she will have a healthy foundation to fall back on when her eating habits make her life unmanageable. We’ve done this before, and we’ll probably have to do it again, but every time gets easier, and every time the results resonate stronger.

Again, say thank you to Samantha. I will send my pic soon with my certificate.

Viki

Wow, can of you relate to what Viki was talking about? Thanks for sharing with us Viki, I know you are inspiring others too. If you want to be able to walk right by chocolate and not be tempted then I encourage you to check out my 14 day program she is on. You will love it! The certificate she is talking about is one some take after you MADE it the 14 days! It is SUCH an accomplishment. : )

When you struggle with an addiction, like a sugar addiction, you live in this constant state of getting that “fix”. But the problem is, that doesn’t really fix anything, it only temporarily puts a band aid on the cravings or feelings you have until those chemicals wear off and once again, you are stuck needing a fix. It is one frustrating place to be because if you are “crashing” off a previous sugar high and your blood sugar and serotonin levels are all out of whack because of it, you feel desperate. You feel like you have to do something to stop this feeling, so you can start feeling normal again… your body knows sugar is the immediate way to fix this problem your body is having.

In that temporary moment of desperation there is a part of you that actually thinks getting that fix is going to help. This is part of the process that helps you to realize that you probably have a problem with sugar… if you eat it every once in a while and it’s not big deal, that is not a sugar addiction. But if you do any of these things: you eat it constantly, you crash, you crave it, you eat till you feel ill, you can’t go more than a few days without it, you wonder how you could ever live your life without eating sugar… then you might have a problem with sugar. The best thing to do is to take this quiz I made up to self-diagnose yourself to see if you do have a sugar addiction. Click here to take the quiz.

One time when I hadn’t had sugar for a while, then I decided to have some for my birthday (some birthdays I give myself the GIFT of not putting myself through that), what happened really helped to remind me of this more. So I had some sugar, not just some, but over about 3 days. When it was all gone and I made a CHOICE to get back on track to get off of that poison again, I could NOT believe what happened the next day. My cravings were SO strong it was RIDICULOUS! They even felt almost painful, like I felt desperate to do something about it to stop this pain. I knew I could because I had done it MANY times before but it felt like I could hardly stand it! My brain starting thinking about how I could get of this pain, its answer was to eat more sugar.

NNNNNOOOOOO, that is NOT the answer and I know that because then where will I be tomorrow when that runs out?! In the same exact place. Oh man I was craving it BAD, so bad that I honestly considered getting more. Well, being the expert on sugar addiction that I am, I knew I needed to do something else, something to get my mind off it, something to change my physical state.

So what did I do? I went into our gym and starting punching the punching bag. At first I didn’t really know how much this was going to help because I had never done this before however I was

pleasantly surprised after a little while, I felt better. And after 15 minutes the cravings were almost completely gone.

My sanity returned.

I felt more clearheaded.

I didn’t feel like a drug addict pheen that was trying to get her next fix.

Wow, that was awesome! Stunk going through it BUT it’s great when you can consistently show yourself that cravings do not have to dominate your life. If you are in balance, you will NOT have cravings. Cravings tell you there is something “off” in you or your life. I knew I was having them only because I ate it for 3 days in a row and I was on my first 24 hours of not having any.

I was shocked how strong the cravings were, to me that was odd since I have gone many, many months without sugar with NO cravings… and if I had a few times I didn’t have cravings like this. But the important thing is I got through it and day 3 of no sugar after that, wow! I love the way I feel without that stuff in my body.

Why? Because its everywhere and in just about every processed food that there is. We are bombarded with ads for it, smothered with it at parties or functions and told by media that you should eat it because you want it – fulfill your cravings. Yeah, how is that working for ya? Leaving you frustrated, eeked out, jonsing for your next fix.

(By the way, this large mass of destruction to the right is how much sugar the average American eats in a year, now up to 150 lbs!)

People that don’t think a sugar addiction is real, have never had one. They can’t empathize because they are clueless how it grips your life at times and seems to take over your mind and body and you feel like you have no say, really, in whether you are going to eat it or not. And maybe you don’t even know if you are addicted to sugar, you can check out this online seminar to see….

Cravings call your name and you run to them even though part of you wants to run from them but you can’t stop. It pulls you in, drags you in, summons your name and you answer like a puppet.

Sound familiar?

Then you know what its like to struggle with a sugar addiction. It really ticks me off because when I find myself back in that trap, that prison, that struggle of knowing what to do but yet being pulled where you really, truly don’t want to go….I do get upset.

Upset at myself that I have allowed that garbage, that poison, to seep back into my life. It starts so “innocently”. A cookie here, a brownie here, next thing you know you are gorging on a kitchen full of sweets, enough to open a bakery!

Sound familiar?

Then you know what I am talking about. Well, I know so much because I was obviously a sugar addict. Thank God I am not anymore however if I don’t pay attention, oh mamma, you better watch out because I can find myself answering that call it has over me….if I am not on guard and I don’t pay attention.

So, my words of wisdom to you are this. PAY ATTENTION! Don’t let that white toxic substance that masks its evil with a sweet flavor and a temporary high, fooling us to think its so good, so fun to eat. Yeah until you are jonsing for your next fix, until 20 years down the road your teeth start falling out, your bones turn into dried leaves, the wrinkles on your face show that sugar addiction and your joints ache. Sure sounds real fun, right? Sounds like what most of Americans deal with….interesting….and the average American consumes 150 lbs of sugar a year! WOW! Go figure!

Do I sound mad? A little. I am just sick of how this is destroying our countries health and hardly anyone is doing anything about it!

If you are fed up and you are ready to see how awesome you can feel NOT having this sugar addiction, then check out my 14 day Solution to break this sugar addiction your life.
